Navigation

The menu structure on this web site may look different, but it is very easy to use. Click here if you still have problems after reading this section.

The menu on the left of the page will accompany you wherever you go. It will slide up and down the page, following you as you scroll. It is designed to take you to all of the major entry points in the site.

If you have difficulty using the sub-menus, try clicking on the main menu heading that you want. This stabilises the menu so that you can take your time choosing a destination. The first ("Home") page has a site map. You can always jump back to this page from anywhere on the site by using the "About" sub-menu: choose 'Home page' to get there. If you are having problems, click the image at the top of any page to get this page, and then click on the message under the main menu.

Some destination pages are, in essence, chapter headings. These offer you many pages to choose from, but they have no 'back' button. You can use your browser's normal back buttons, of course, but the main menu on the left of the page will take you directly to where you want to go if you want to leave one of these 'chapters'.

Within a chapter, however, you will find that all of the pages have three navigation buttons, set in the pink bar that runs across the top of the screen. The arrow to the left will take you back down the index of pages in the chapter to the chapter headings themselves, whilst the arrow on the right will take you forward. The central round button will take you directly back to the chapter index. You can, of course, jump to another part of the site at any time by using the main menu.

The links page contains a site search facility, using Google.

Printing a page

You can use your browser to print out a pagein the normal manner, or choose "Print this page" in the Utilities menu. Each section is organised so that it prints as a unity. We regret that we do not offer PDF or equivalent documents, not least as all of the material is subject to constant revision.

Technical problems

If you have technical problems with this site, then it is likely that this will have occurred for one of two reasons. If you have a browser that is Generation 3 or earlier - that is, more than seven years old - then it will not be designed to interpret Javascript, which is used heavily in the navigation cues in the site.

In this situation, you will already have been taken to a special page that gives you access to the full site, but which does so without the web of navigation cues that other users enjoy. You may want to consider updating your system to a newer, free browser. These are widely available on the Internet, as well as from most computer-focused magazines which offer free CDs with software on them.

If you have a more modern browser and you are still experiencing difficulties, then it is almost certainly the case that you have turned off either Javascript of the interpretation of dynamic HTML (DHTML). Please look to your browser options if you want to correct this. DHTML is often disabled automatically if you choose the hypersafe options in respect of your exposure to the perils of the web.
